Highlighting the Leaders and Difference-Makers in Our Community

Outstanding Leadership: Jaimie Martin
Jaimie is a long-time member and current board secretary for RGDSN. Over the last few years she has co-chaired RGDSN's largest community fundraiser, Buddy Walk. During the those years spearheading the event, Jaimie has faced difficult challenges including a change in venue the week of the event. Her thoughtful planning and leadership ensured that the event was a huge success. She also co-chaired the event shift to Expo New Mexico to which attendees gave positive feedback praising the logistics and activities of the Walk with some calling it "the best walk ever!" As Buddy Walk Chair again in 2025, she and her committee are well underway to creating another successful and memorable event. She has supported our Executive Search Committee in planning for the organization's first full-time hire, volunteered with Denim & Diamonds Gala and steps into to help at any RGDSN event she is in attendance displaying leadership wherever she goes.

Outstanding Community Partner
Joe Keller, The Nest ABQ

For over an year, Joe Keller has donated a dance room for the Lucky Few Dance Crew. The room is beautiful with excellent service and amenities. Joe, having had a sister with Down syndrome, now also has started to attend RGDSN events to remember and honor his sister. We hope the dance classes celebrate the life of his sister and the lives of the dancers and Joe's generosity. 

Both Emily and Inga have co-taught individuals with Down Syndrome at the Escuela del Sol for many years. They have high expectations and a big heart. With challenging lessons, creative modifications, and frequent family communication, these two have made huge differences in the lives of their students.

Outstanding Individual Role Model

John Cordova and his family has been one of the longest standing members in our community. During that time, John has been a wonderful ambassador for RGDSN, attending many of RGDSN's events throughout the year and making many media appearances alongside his mom a founding member. He has been seen on tv interviews, making stage announcements at events and helped with social media contests on RGDSN's Facebook page. John has been active in special olympics and in school activities including being a manager for the Cibola basketball team. Since the first flight of his family's hot air balloon "The Lucky Few" you'll often find John during Balloon Fiesta greeting visitors from all over the world who come to see the balloon. Most recently, John gave a speech at his high school graduation, something he told his parents early on he wanted to do. He is a perfect example of an outstanding individual who has set a great example for his peers and families with young children.
