My name is Daniel Ekman, Program Manager for the Center for Self Advocacy Program of the Developmental Disabilities Planning Council. I want to promote two exciting opportunities that are coming up for DDPC’s Center for Self Advocacy.
- For two weeks, June 5 and June 12, DDPC’s Self Advocacy is having its Summer Fun Series from 1:15-2:45 pm. The Summer Fun Series is a great way to meet other advocates and use art as a tool of self-discovery. This year, picture collages and stamping are the projects. There will also be a Hawaiian theme. The classes will be held at the DDPC Office at:
625 Silver Avenue SW, Suite 100
Albuquerque, NM 87102
For more information, see the attached flyer. To reserve a spot for the Summer Fun Series, call Justin Moore at505-841-4519 and mention the Summer Fun Series.
- Through June 19, DDPC/CSA is accepting applications for the Advocate Leadership Academy. The Academy will run three hours a week on Mondays, 14 sessions starting August 14. A learning process includes each advocate leader being connected with a DDPC/CSA team leader, completing an individual self-assessment, developing a goal, and actively participating in the Academy activities. This program provides hands-on leadership training and is ideal for New Mexicans interested in advocating, leading, or improving disability systems. Print out the attached application and follow instructions, complete them and return to DDPC by June 19, 5 pm.
- On June 16-17, the 2017 Summit on Advocacy will be taking place at the Hyatt Regency in Albuquerque at 330 Tijeras Av. NW. The registration deadline is May 30. A flyer on the conference is attached. To register and view a tentative agenda, go to https://www.arcnm.org/2017-statewide-self-advocacy-summit/
